Cotton is sown from April to June and harvested from September to December. It is a major cash crop of South-Western Punjab. It is a kharif crop. The cotton crop in Punjab, grown from the Bt-cotton seed, have been affected by a pest known as the mearly bug and white flies. Punjab has nearly 12 lakh hectare area under cotton and almost all of it is Bt-cotton. Cotton sowing takes place in several cotton growing areas including Bathinda, Muktsar Sahib, Mansa, etc.
