West Bengal comprises of six agro-climatic zones namely Hill Zone/Northern Hill, Terai Zone/Terai Teesta Flood Plains, Old Alluvium/Gangetic Flood Plain, New Alluvium/Undulating Lateritic Zone, Laterite and Red Soil Zone/Vindhyan Old Flood Plain and Coastal and Saline Zone/Coastal Flood Plain. The Vindhyan Old Flood Plain includes Murshidabad, Howrah, Hooghly, Bardhaman, Birbhum and West and East Midnapore districts. The Undulating Lateritic Zone includes Purulia, Bardhaman, Birbhum, Bnakura and West Midnapore districts.
