West Bengal comprises of six agro-climatic zones namely Hill Zone/Northern Hill, Terai Zone/Terai Teesta Flood Plains, Old Alluvium/Gangetic Flood Plain, New Alluvium/Undulating Lateritic Zone, Laterite and Red Soil Zone/Vindhyan Old Flood Plain and Coastal and Saline Zone/Coastal Flood Plain. The Vindhyan Old Flood Plain includes Murshidabad, Howrah, Hooghly, Bardhaman, Birbhum and West and East Midnapore districts.
