Old alluvium is called Bhangar. It contains calcareous deposits locally known as 'Kankar'. Soil is not very fertile. And hence not suitable for agriculture. Newer alluvium is called khadar. It contains new alluvium. Used extensively for agriculture. It has no calcareous deposits.
