Cell division occurs during M phase, which consists of nuclear division (mitosis) followed by cytoplasmic division (cytokinesis). It includes several stages: prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase. Cytokinesis is another process that runs during telophase and it leads to the splitting of the cytoplasm.
