Article 368 of the Constitution of India deals with the power of Parliament to amend the Constitution and the procedure for doing so:
Procedure
To amend the Constitution, Parliament must introduce a Bill in either the Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha. The Bill must then be passed by both houses with a special majority. This means that a two-thirds majority of the members present and voting in each House must vote in favor of the Bill. Finally, the President must give his assent to the Bill, and the amendment becomes part of the Constitution.
Types of amendments
There are two types of amendments:
Special majority: Amendments that can be made by a special majority of Parliament.
Special majority and ratification: Amendments that can be made by a special majority of Parliament and ratification by half of the state legislatures by a simple majority.
