Panjab (Punjab) University is one of the oldest universities in India located at Chandigarh. It was established in 1882. After the partition of India in 1947, this university was split into two for Indian Punjab and Pakistani Punjab. A new university was then established in the Punjab, India in 1947. To distinguish between the two universities, the name of the university on the Indian side has been changed from Punjab to Panjab.
