Maharani Bhanumati was most favourite Queen of Maharaja Bir Chandra Manikya. She was the daughter of Rajkumar Ningthem Kulendra of Kasba (Keilashgar) and sister of Rajkumar Ranadhwaj who was one of the influential ministers of Bir Chandra Manikya. Maharani Bhanumati gave birth to prince Samarendra who was appointed as Barthakur. When the King was in a state of shock following the untimely death of Maharani Bhanumati Devi in the year 1881, he studied young Rabindra Nath Tagore's celebrated love-poem 'Bhagna Hriday'. Bir Chandra found a resonance of his anguish in Tagore's elegiac lyric and sent his political Secretary to Jorasanko near Calcutta to congratulate the poet on his behalf.
