Answer: Option B

Let the average after 17^th innings = x
Then average after 16^th innings = (x - 3)
Therefore 16 × (x - 3) + 87 = 17x
Therefore x = 39

Run increase in 17 innings= 17*3 = 51
Average of 16 innings = 87-51 = 36
Average after 17th innings = 36+3 = 39

after scoring 87 runs in 17th innings his average score increase 3 that means his average run before scoring 87 was (87-(17*3))=36. Now avrg is =36+3=39
