A cement concrete road is 1000 m long, 8 m wide and 15 cm thick over the sub-base of 10 cm thick gravel. The box cutting in road crust is

A. 500 m3

B. 1000 m3

C. 1500 m3

D. 2000 m3

Answer: Option D

Solution (By Examveda Team)

We're asked to find the volume of box cutting needed for a concrete road. Think of "box cutting" as the amount of soil we need to remove (excavate) to create space for the road.

The road is made of two layers:
1. A 15 cm thick concrete layer.
2. A 10 cm thick gravel sub-base layer.

Box cutting is all about how much earth you need to remove, so we only care about the final dimensions of the road profile. So, we need to consider both layers (concrete and gravel) to determine the total depth of the excavation.

1. Calculate the total thickness:
The total thickness is 15 cm (concrete) + 10 cm (gravel) = 25 cm.
We need to convert this to meters: 25 cm = 0.25 m

2. Calculate the volume:
Volume is calculated by: Length x Width x Height (or Thickness in this case)
Length = 1000 m
Width = 8 m
Thickness = 0.25 m
Volume = 1000 m x 8 m x 0.25 m = 2000 m3

Therefore, the correct answer is Option D: 2000 m3

    L=1000m
    B=8m
    Road Thickness over subbase=15cm=0.15m
    Gravel thickness=10cm=0.1
    The total thickness =0.15+0.1=0.25m
    Box cutting road crust= 1000×8×0.25= 2000m³

    Option c is correct
    Original vol. Comes out 2000m3
    But we know
    Cutting vol. =(1/4)*original volume
    So putting the values we get
    Cutting vol. =(1/4)* 2000=500
    So box cutting in road crust=2000-500=1500

    Original volvume = 1000 cu m
    Cutoff volume = 500 cu m
    So 2000-500 1500

    Orginal volume = 1000m * 8m * (15cm+10cm),
    = 1000 * 8 * 0.25cum,
    = 2000 cum

    Cutt-off volume = (1/4) * original volume.
    = (1/4) * 2000cum,
    = 500cum

    So, Box cutting in road curst = (2000-500)
    = 1500cum

    yes it should be 2000
    because if we calculate total thickness that will be .25m
    and we have given width is 8m
    length is 1000m
    so total volume is 1000*8*.25 = 2000
