Alley cropping is a specific technique of growing field crops in between two widely spaced rows or alleys of fast-growing trees. For better yield in this practice, it is required to prune the trees regularly to limit the shading of the agricultural crop. It helps in nutrient cycling and at the same time control, soil erosion as big trees have a good hold on the soil.
