The meander loop cuts off from the river and forms a cut-off lake know as mender lake. As the river enters the plain it twists and turns forming large bends known as meanders. In youthful stage and upper coarse headward erosion i.e. vertical erosion predominates but as it enters plains lateral erosion becomes significant and large bends known meanders are formed.
