Jharkhand was previously a part of India's Bengal province during the British administration. The territory was part of the Bengal Presidency until 1905, when the majority of it was transferred to the Central Provinces and Orissa Tributary States; later, in 1936, the entire region was allotted to the Eastern States Agency.
