Fertilizer use is profitable if each rupee is spent on a fertilizer crop worth at least Rs. 2.
Using survey results, rough calculations suggest agricultural household's spend on fertilizer or manure would be in the range of Rs. 78,000 - Rs. 1,20,000 crore in a cropping year. Adding the fertilizer subsidy bill, this amount will be around 1.7% of India’s consumption expenditure.
