Sources of negative charges on silicate clays is/are
A. Exposed crystal edges
B. Isomorphus substitution
C. Anion exchange
D. All of these
Answer: Option D
Solution (By Examveda Team)
Silicate clay is the electro-microscopic clay mineral, which a diameter of fewer than 2 microns. The sources of negative charges on silicate clays are due to exposed crystal edges, Isomorphus substitution and anion exchange.

Anion exchange is not source of negative charge on silicate clays because anion exchange occurs at positively charged sites, whereas negative charges on silicate clays attract and exchange cations. Therefore, anion exchange does not create negative charge. kindly clear my concept.
