Gleization is the pedogenic process of soil formation under an anaerobic environment and leads to the development of a gley horizon in the lower part of the soil profile with green-blue colours above the parent material due to poor drainage conditions, related to the reduction of soluble ferrous iron under water-logged conditions.
This pedogenic process occurs in Bog soil, which is oxygen and nutrient deficient and is much more acidic than other soils.
