If B is the width of formation, d is the height of the embankment, side slope S : 1, for a highway with no transverse slope, the area of cross-section is

A. $${\text{B}} + {\text{d}} + {\text{Sd}}$$

B. $${\text{Bd}} + {\text{S}}{{\text{d}}^2}$$

C. $${\text{B}} \times {\text{d}} - {\text{S}}{{\text{d}}^{\frac{1}{2}}}$$

D. $$\frac{1}{2}\left( {{\text{Bd}} + {\text{S}}{{\text{d}}^2}} \right)$$

    Give data
    Width=B
    Height=d
    Slope =S:1
    What is the base of triangle..?
    Slope = height/ base or rise/ run
    Slope=S/1= d/base
    n base = d
    base=d/n
    Area of cross-section= Area of rectangle+ Area of triangle
    Bd+ 1/2 base × height
    Bd+ 1/2 × d/n× d
    Bd+d²/n

    AREA OF CROSS SECTION =Area of rectangle + 2* Area of triangle.
    =BD+SD^2.
    In case of cutting side slope is 1:1.
    In case of Filling side slope is 2:1 (H:V).
