    Suppose amount of cake=100

    Father took = 1/4 * 100 = 25

    Remaining = 100 -25 = 75

    Let the number of people = x

    Distribution to the family members = 75(remaining amount of cake) / x (number of family members)

    Its given father had 3 times as much as each of the other members had,

    Therefore, 25(Father’s amount of cake) = 3 times as much as each of the other members (75/x)

    then, 25= 3 * (75/x)

    x=9

    Total= 9 +1(Father)=10 family members.
