Examveda team please elaborate what's data inadequate.....
There are lots of groups participate in the fete , and the given calculation is about only one group so that's why data inadequate..
Let no of girls is 5, so 1/5 of 5= 1, and no of boys is 8, so 1/8 of 8=1.
Total students=8+5=13.
No of participants =1+1=2.
So the fraction be =2/13.
let, x be the total number of boys & y be the total number of girls.
so, the ratio of participating boys and girls is equal to (x/8+y/5)/(x+y)
since, we dont know the total number of students.... so data insufficiency is the correct answer.
i think that the answer should be D as by Calculating we can find that 33/100 Means 33% of the students participated. so the Answer that Data is inadequate is not correct
Itx 13/40 not data indequate
How the data is inadequate? According to the question the no.of girls participated are 1/5 and no.of boys participated are 1/8 and they asked the total no.of students. So if we add these two values together then we get 13/40 as the answer but it is incorrect, why???
