What is the maximum strength of the Judges of Supreme Court (including Chief Justice of India)?
Discuss
Answer & Solution
Answer: Option D
Solution:
The Supreme Court is the highest court in India. It has a Chief Justice and many other judges. The number of judges can change over time, and it is decided by the Parliament of India (our law-making body).

When the Supreme Court was first established in 1950, it had 1 Chief Justice and 7 other judges, making a total of 8 judges.

Over the years, as the workload of the Supreme Court increased, the Parliament has increased the maximum number of judges several times:

In 1956, it was increased to 10 judges.
In 1960, it was increased to 13 judges.
In 1978, it was increased to 17 judges.
In 1986, it was increased to 25 judges.
In 2009, it was increased to 30 judges.
And most recently, in 2019, the number was increased to 33 other judges plus the Chief Justice of India.

So, the current maximum strength of the Judges of the Supreme Court, including the Chief Justice of India, is 1 (Chief Justice) + 33 (other Judges) = 34 Judges.

Since Option A (25), Option B (26), and Option C (30) are all less than the current maximum strength of 34, the correct answer is Option D: None of the above.

It's good to remember that this number can be changed by Parliament again in the future if needed!
