Humus is the dark organic matter in the soil formed by the decomposition of plant and animal matter, rich in nutrients and retaining moisture in the soil. It is very much important for healthy plants and proper yield of the crop.

Humin is carbon based macromolecular substance and consists of both mineral and organic components. It is a non-biodegradable product of humus formation. It is the insoluble component of soil organic matter that remains after the extraction of the other components from soil organic matter in an aqueous base.
