Pregnancy toxemia is a metabolic disease primarily of pregnant during late pregnancy (less frequently in postpartum, pseudopregnant, and nonpregnant), characterized by low morbidity and high mortality.
It occurs as the result of increased energy demand accompanied by insufficient nutrition.
