Strait vs Straight in Bhabhi Ji ghar pe hain style

Strait vs Straight

Straight means without without a curve or bend or interruption; whereas, Strait is a narrow passage of water connecting two large bodies of water.

Straight

Straight is

1. An adjective meaning level, upright, not bent, accurate and honest.

"It's difficult to draw a straight line without using a ruler. [Not bent]

"Put the picture straight." [Level/upright]

"My father is a straight talker – some would say alarmingly direct." [Honest]

2. An adverb meaning directly or without interruption.

"He went straight to Chennai without stopping in Hyderabad."

"On returning home, he went straight to the bathroom to take a shower."

Strait

Strait is almost always a noun. It means a narrow channel joining two larger bodies of water. The plural form, straits, means difficulty or distress. It also has a few mostly archaic adjective definitions, but these are almost never used.

The phrasal adjective strait-laced uses one of the archaic definitions of strait — namely, tight-fitting, narrow.

"Where is the Strait of Gibraltar?"

"We crossed the Strait at an early hour to catch the express train."

"I could never ask a relative for money unless I were in hopeless straits."

"The crew was in dire straits when the boat started to sink."

Trick to remember the difference

"Strait is narrower than Straight."

To generalize, straits have the quality of narrowness, while straight describes the quality of not bending or curving.

You can remember to use strait in contexts where something is narrow since strait has fewer letters than straight. It is quite simply a narrower word.
