Oryza is a genus of plants in the grass family. It includes the major food crop rice. It consists of 24 species and taxa. There are four major categories of rice worldwide: Indica, Japonica, aromatic and glutinous. Members of the genus grow as tall, wetland grasses, growing to 1 - 2 meters tall, the genus includes both annual and perennial species.
