Jute is harvested any time between 120 days to 150 days, after the shedding of flowers or with the start of the small pod stage. Early harvesting gives good quality fibers and yield. The stems of harvested plants are bundled and immersed in water for 10 to 15 days, then after rotting, fibres are separated by hand.
