The nitrification process is most active when the pH is between 6.5 and 7.5.
It is observed that the nitrification process is pH sensitive and the rates of nitrification will decline significantly at pH value below 6.5. Therefore, it is important to maintain adequate alkalinity to provide pH stability and also to provide inorganic carbon for nitrifiers.
