Answer: Option A

Solution (By Examveda Team)

Under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, provisions are made to ensure the care, protection, and rehabilitation of children in need of care and protection, as well as children in conflict with the law. The Act also addresses offenses against children and prescribes punishments for such offenses.

In the context of cruelty to a juvenile or child, the Juvenile Justice Act specifies the following punishment:

Option A: Imprisonment up to 6 months or fine or both - This option is not entirely accurate according to the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act. The Act generally prescribes stricter penalties for offenses against children.
Option B: Imprisonment up to 1 year or with fine or both - This option correctly reflects the punishment prescribed under the Juvenile Justice Act for cruelty to a juvenile or child. The Act recognizes the seriousness of such offenses and provides for imprisonment for a period of up to 1 year, along with the possibility of imposing a fine.
Option C: Imprisonment up to 2 years only - This option is not entirely accurate. While the Act does prescribe imprisonment for cruelty to a juvenile or child, the maximum term of imprisonment specified is 1 year, not 2 years.
Option D: Fine up to Rs. 1,00,000 only - This option is not accurate as it does not specify imprisonment as a possible punishment. The Act includes imprisonment as one of the possible penalties for cruelty to a juvenile or child.

Therefore, the correct answer is Option B: Imprisonment up to 1 year or with fine or both, as it accurately reflects the punishment prescribed under the Juvenile Justice Act for offenses related to cruelty against children.
