The sum of three numbers is 2, the 1st number is $$\frac{1}{2}$$ times the 2nd and the 3rd number is $$\frac{1}{4}$$ times the 2nd number. The 2nd number is :

A. $$\frac{7}{6}$$

B. $$\frac{8}{7}$$

C. $$\frac{9}{8}$$

D. $$\frac{10}{9}$$

Answer: Option B

Solution(By Examveda Team)

Let the number is a, b, c
a + b + c = 2
a = $$\frac{1}{2}$$ b.....(i)
c = $$\frac{1}{4}$$ b.....(ii)
$$\frac{a}{b}$$ = $$\frac{1}{2}$$
$$\frac{b}{c}$$ = $$\frac{4}{1}$$
a   :   b   :   c
1 : 2
4 : 1
4 : 8 : 2
a : b : c = 2 : 4 : 1
(2 + 4 + 1) = 7
7 units → 2
1 unit → $$\frac{2}{7}$$
4 units → $$\frac{2}{7}$$ × 4 = $$\frac{8}{7}$$
So, 2nd number is $$\frac{8}{7}$$
