Two candidates fought an election. One of them got 62% of the total votes and won by 432 votes. What is the total number of votes polled ?

A. 1500

B. 1600

C. 1800

D. Cannot be determined

E. None of these

Answer: Option C

Solution(By Examveda Team)

Let the total number of votes polled be x
Then, votes polled by other candidate
= (100 - 62)% of x
= 38% of x
∴ 62% of x - 38% of x = 432
⇒ $$\frac{24x}{100}$$ = 432
⇒ x = $$\frac{432 × 100}{24}$$
⇒ 1800
