Let the total number of votes = 100xWinner candidate get 57% of vote i.e. = 57x and losser will get = 100x - 57x = 43x
According to the question,
57x - 43x = 42000
⇒ 14x = 42000
⇒ x = 3000
Total votes = 100x
= 100 × 3000
= 300000
