Vasily V. Dokuchaev is known as the father of Pedology. He is also known as the founder of modern soil science. He introduced the idea that the geographical variations in soil type could be explained by other variables besides geological factors. He also developed the first soil classification.
Pedology is defined as the science that studies the genesis, nature, distribution and use of the potentiality of soil resources.
