Let AB be the tree and AC be its shadow.

$$\frac{{AC}}{{AB}} = \cot \theta $$
$$\frac{{AC}}{{AB}} = \sqrt 3 $$
$$\cot {30^ \circ } = \sqrt 3 $$
∴ θ = 30°
