The first Project Director for PDVR was Dr. G. Kalloo.
PDVR is the Project Directorate of Vegetable Research, under IIVR, Varanasi.
In the year 1991, Dr. G. Kalloo joined PDVR as the first Project Director. Later in the year 1992, the Headquarters of PDVR shifted from New Delhi to Varanasi.
He was former DDG (Crop Science), ICAR, New Delhi and vice-chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Jabalpur in 2017. He has written several books including Genetic improvement of Tomatoes and many other vegetables, because of which he is regarded as the father of tomato.
