34 satellites are operational in India: Government

The Union Government has announced that currently 34 Indian satellites are operational in the space.

It was announced by the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh in written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha.

34 operational satellites are

13 Communication Satellites:
01=INSAT-3A
02=INSAT-3C
03=INSAT-4A
04=INSAT-4B
05=INSAT-4CR
06=GSAT-6
07=GSAT-7
08=GSAT-8
09=GSAT-10
10=GSAT-12
11=GSAT-14
12=GSAT-15
13=GSAT-16

12 Earth Observation Satellites:
01=Resourcesat-2
02=RISAT-1
03=RISAT-2
04=Cartosat-1
05=Cartosat-2
06=Cartosat-2A
07=Cartosat-2B
08=Oceansat-2
09=SARAL
10=Kalpana-1
11=Megha-Tropiques
12=INSAT-3D

7 Navigational Satellites:
01=IRNSS-1A
02=1B
03=1C
04=1D
05=1E
06=1F
07=1G

2 Space science Satellites:
01=Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM)
02=Astrosat

It was also mentioned that about 30 service providers are utilising Ku-band (a part of K band) transponders onboard indigenous communication satellites for various communication applications.

These applications include Direct-To-Home Television (DTH), Digital Satellite News Gathering, telecommunication, VSAT services for banking, tele-education and business communication etc.
