Cashewnut originated from Brazil.
Cashews originated in Brazil's northeast, the easternmost corner of South America. Portuguese missionaries took it to East Africa and India during the late 16^th century, where it became abundant at low altitudes near the seacoast. The Portuguese took it to Goa, India between 1560 and 1565.
It is a tropical evergreen tree that produces the cashew seed and the cashew apple accessory fruit.
