Cells absorb water through Osmosis and Imbibition only.
Both phenomena help in the metabolic activity of the plant. The process of adsorption of water by solid particles of a substance without forming a solution is called imbibition.
Osmosis is the diffusion of water molecules across a selectively permeable membrane from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. Water moves into and out of cells by osmosis.
