The Chilli variety suitable for colour extraction is Arka abir.
A pure line selection from Dyavanur Dubba (a local Byadagi variety grown in Kundgoltaluk, Dharwad District).
Plants are tall with fruits light green in colour, wrinkled turning deep red on maturity and less pungent. Yields 2 t/ha dry chili in 160 - 180 days. Recommended for release in 1995 by Institute Varietal Release Committee.
It has better colour (colour value maximum 1,65,541 c.u.) therefore, it is suitable for colour extraction.
