The commercial rootstock of sweet cherry is Mazzard.
Mazzard is the most popular cherry rootstock grown in North America. It is generally more vigorous than Mahaleb, especially in poorer soils. Performs in deep soils with good drainage. This rootstock is somewhat dwarfing, cold hardy and precocious.
It is a robust and determined cherry tree that offers high yields of tiny, delicious cherries. This variety is extremely disease resistant and works great as a rootstock for grafting other varieties.
