Constituents of pigment system I are located on the outer surface of granal and stromal thylakoids.
Photosynthetic pigments are the molecules responsible for absorbing electromagnetic radiation, transferring the energy of the absorbed photons to the reaction center, and for photochemical conversion in the photosynthetic systems of organisms capable of photosynthesis.
The pigment system I (PSI) complex consists of 200 chlorophylls, 50 carotenoids and a molecule of chlorophyll an absorbs light at 700 nm (P700) and this constitutes the reaction center of photosystem I.
