For biological control of tomato fruit borer, the ideal trap crop is Marigold.
In tomato marigold or cucumber is commonly used as a trap crop for every 15 rows of the main crop to attract tomato fruit borer. Marigold is a potential trap crop in potato and rice against nematodes and snails, respectively.
Fruit borer is a serious pest of tomato as it reduces yield by up to 40%. The young are greenish to brown, with dark lines about the size of half of the finger. Adult females are yellow moths with dark brown spots on their wings. Larvae feed on the leaves and later make holes in the fruit which can be up to the size of a pea.
