Freedom-II is a virus-resistant transgenic variety of Squash. It was commercialized in 1995.
It is the first variety of genetically engineered yellow squash and the second GE crop to be cleared by U.S regulators.
Freedom II was engineered with viral coat protein genes to be resistant to two viruses that are watermelon Mosaic virus 2 (WMV 2) and Zucchini Yellow Mosaic virus (ZYMV).
