Fried egg colonies appearance is a characteristic feature of Mycoplasmas.
Fried egg bacteria are the characteristic appearance of Mycoplasma. Mycoplasmas are the smallest free-living microorganisms and belong to the group of bacteria which lack a cell wall and can take up any shape.
When they are allowed to grow on an artificial medium they appear biphasicand in addition to this they lack a cell wall and are filamentous to spherical cells thus giving a fried egg appearance. It lacks any spores and movement appendages.
