Ridge gourd is a cucurbitaceous summer vegetable grown throughout the year in the northeastern region and is used as a vegetable. It is a creeper and has a climbing or trailing habit. There is a wide variation in the shape and length of fruits.
Hermaphrodite variety of ridge gourd is Satputia. This is a cultivar of Bihar, which is hermaphrodite in sex form which means have both male and female parts and it produces smaller fruits in clusters. In each cluster, 5-7 fruits are borne. Fruits are pale-green. The average yield is 20 - 25 tonnes/ha. It is mainly grown in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
