In 1949, the Government of India started a vegetable breeding station at Katrain.
Establishment of a vegetable breeding station at Katrain in Kullu Valley, Himachal Pradesh for the production of seeds of temperate vegetables in the year 1949.
In 1955, Transfer of vegetable breeding station, Katrain to the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi to undertake research on temperate vegetable crops, standardization of seed production technology and produce seeds of improved varieties of temperate vegetable crops.
