Tamil Nadu is the largest producer of bananas in India. Banana is cultivated in about 1.12 lakh ha in Tamil Nadu. In Tamil Nadu, Coimbatore District holds the first position in the area under this crop followed by Erode and Tuticorin districts.
In the past five years, there has been a 32% increase in banana production in the state. Tamil Nadu exports the fruit to South Korea, Europe and South Africa, mainly from the Theni region as it produces the best quality banana in the state.
