Jaffna is a cultivar of Drumstick.
It is introduced in Sri Lanka. Highly suited for coastal tracts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. It bears long pods (60 - 90 cm) and soft flesh of good taste.
The traditional 40 years old Jaffna Moringa has been grown in Thangachimadam areas and the cutting was brought from Jaffna, Sri Lanka during the cargo service between India and Sri Lanka. It comes very well in coastal sandy soils.
A 40-year-old tree gives 1500 moringa sticks daily between March - June. They apply only organic manures such as goat manure to the tree. It is not usually affected by pests and diseases. The rainy season of October, November and December is the off-season for moringa trees.
