Multi-storyed cropping is practiced in Karnataka and Kerala.
Plantings consisting of an overstory of trees or shrubs with an understory of specialty or agronomic crops or forage. Tree-to-tree distance is wide enough to let sufficient light through to understory crops or forage. "Forest Farming" is a form of multistory cropping.
The practice of multi-storey cropping system is highly successful in plantation crops such as coconut, areca nut, cashew, and coffee for enhancing sustainable productivity and realizing higher income per unit area.
