The national malaria eradication program started in the year 1953.
In 1953, the Government of India launched the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) with a focus on indoor residual spraying of DDT. Within five years, the program helped to dramatically reduce the annual incidence of malaria.
To combat the devastating effects of Malaria, the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) was launched and built around three key activities that are insecticidal residual spray (IRS) with DDT, monitoring and surveillance of cases and treatment of patients.
