National Seed Project was launched in 1977 with financial support from World Bank. The World Bank assisted considerably in the strengthening of the Indian seed programme by launching NSP I in 1977 - 78 and subsequently NSP II in the following year.
The National Seed Project will be the first phase in the development of India's National Seed Program to increase the availability of high-quality seeds. NSC developed NSP for the production of high-yielding varieties of seeds through contracts with progressive growers, scientific processing, certification and marketing.
