The shading structure used in betel vine cultivation is called Bareja.
Bareja is normally made on raised slightly sloppy land. It is constructed with locally- available materials like bamboo, jute sticks, straw, etc. with a height of 2 - 2.5 m. The walls and top of the bareja are covered with thatching material like leaves of coconut, sugarcane, etc. It is a type of artificially created controlled environment for better quality and production of betel vine.
