The true potato seed concept was 1st realized to raise a commercial crop in India by Dr. S. Ramanujan.
It was first evolved through sexual reproduction by Ramanujam in 1957 and subsequently, its commercial viability was tested. However, the high heterozygosity of seedlings of TPS and uniformity in crop hampered its commercial adoption by farmers.
